Google unleashes unlocked G1 on developers

Good news if you're a developer itching to get your creative developer hands on a T-Mobile G1--and especially good news if you happen to be a developer who lives outside an area covered by T-Mobile. Google has announced a SIM- and hardware-unlocked version of the first Android smartphone. To get an Android Dev Phone 1, you'll first need to register as an Android developer on the Android Market site, which entails a one-time setup fee of $25. Then the device will cost you $399 (free shipping here in the States). To accommodate demand, Google says it's one device per developer account--for now.(Katz, 2008)

This is what the G1 really needs to an Iphone competitor, nowadays apps are what make a device standout. Before when you got a phone it was the same until you upgraded to another, but now cellphones are constantly changing, making cellphones truly multifunctional.

Apple's iPod Problem

After years of strong growth, sales for the iPod appear to be plateauing and may soon decline for the first quarter since it was introduced seven years ago. Everyone who wants an iPod now has one, it seems. Perhaps the iPod's biggest benefit to Apple these days is in helping it sell Macintosh.Chris Wysopal is the head of a four-iPod family. His wife and two kids all carry the pint-size nano music player from Apple , while he uses a 2003-vintage device he got as a hand-me-down from his wife. But as much they love their iPods, the Wysopal family has no plans to buy any new ones in the foreseeable future. "They're all working, so there's no need to buy more," says Chris. (Hesseldahl, 2008)

I might as well claim this story as my own, Ipods have been on sale since 2001 and everyone that wanted one, probably already has one. I am not saying that everyone didn't want one 'cause obviously everyone doesn't have one,i'ts just that they are pricy and the models keep on coming it's hard to keep up.(I know it's confusing, read it again).

Amazon Burns Through Meager Kindle Supply

Online retailer Amazon has run out of Kindle e-book readers and won't be able to fulfill orders until well after the holidays. The device's sales were likely juiced by an endorsement from Oprah Winfrey. However, those who simply must have an e-book reader before 2009 have other options. Is it finally e-books' time to shine? If last year's runaway success of Amazon.com's (Nasdaq: AMZN) Kindle e-book reader didn't surprise anyone, how about this year's continuing momentum? The US$359 Kindle is out of stock again, and it probably won't be back in time to fill anyone's stockings this holiday season.(Maxcer, 2008)

The kindle is a very simple device that is only able to read books, yet it has outsold all other similar but slghtly improved products by it's competitors. This is due to the fact that it has over 400,000 books available on the online amazon bookstore, and  Oprah has mentioned it as one of her favorite gagets. I my self don't read books as often (at all) as other people, but im sure if i got one these i'll read some harrypotter or whatever kids are reading these days (cough, cough twilight).

Nokia Shows Off Sociable, Spendy Smartphone

Nokia has revealed the newest member of its N line of smartphones, the N97. Going up against popular handsets from rivals like Apple and Research In Motion, the N97 emphasizes Web browsing and mobile social networking features. However, its high asking price and the fact that top-line Nokias aren't often subsidized by carriers may hinder adoption in the U.SNokia (NYSE: NOK) unveiled its latest smartphone in Barcelona, Spain, on Tuesday at the Nokia World 2008 conference. The N97, set for release in the first half of 2009, could challenge high-profile mobile devices such as Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone, Research In Motion's (Nasdaq: RIMM) Storm and T-Mobile's G1 for a share of the smartphone market.(Haskins, 2008)

I am dissapointed that Nokia (cellphone masters) didn't do something besides the touchscreen thing, but they believe they could innovate on what apple has done an so do I.Lets face it, Nokia are the grandadies of cellphones, they have been doing this for years, ask your dad his first cellphone was most probably a nokia. The only thing is that the high-end nokias are usually never backed up by carriers (no discouns) , so  700-800 dollars is the only price could get them at,but this price reduces within two or three months.

Microsoft, Yahoo Deal Is 'Total Fiction'

A report in the Sunday Times that Microsoft Corp is in talks with Yahoo Inc to buy the U.S internet company's online search business for $20 billion is "total fiction," according to a key executive cited by an influential U.S. blog. The Sunday Times, which did not cite its sources, said the proposal under discussion involves a complex transaction that would see the U.S. software giant support a new management team to take control of Yahoo.Yahoo spokesman Brad Williams said: "We don't comment on rumors, and all this is is a rumor."(O'Brien, 2008)

Iv'e been following this story about microsoft buying out yahoo for a long time, and seriously I thought this thing was done and done. For me this was the only way to stop Google(even though i dont mind).I mean think about it, yahoo and microsoft;sounds unstopable doesn't?I even made up names for the new conglomarate; yahoosoft, microyahoo, softyahoo, yahoomicro or even just mYcrosoft.
